The latest goings-on at Cable & Cotton
Hello, My Name is Paul Smith..
Picture: Inspiring words to kick start each day
The title of this recent exhibition at the London Design Museum bursts out at you in a hot, bold pink. Whether it's because of the colour, or the witty yet friendly tone of the title, the exhibition drew you in with its fun, upbeat vibes.
The exhibition turns out to be exactly that, not overly curated and overwhelming, but quirky, fun, and unexpected-just like the work of the man himself. It is a concise behind the scenes look at the humble beginnings, extensive influences, design processes, final outcomes and collaborations of what is one of the most successful global fashion brands.

The exhibition is broken up in to ten sections. The running themes throughout are wit, pattern, inspiration and colour!
Paul Smith’s use of colour-be it solid, patterned, or maybe most famously, striped-is varied but always spot on and his collaborations highlight their complementary nature.
We are famous for adding colour.
My stripes have been so popular because they are colourful – Colours make people happy.
If used in the right way, colour can add interest and express positivity.
Colour has been added to classic garments in the forms of linings, or simply as punctuation marks.” Paul Smith
Ultimately the exhibition left me feeling….well, happy! I wasn’t troubled, confused or overwhelmed and in need of a coffee and a sit down. Instead I left with a spring in my step, the desire to get out my camera and snap away at anything that inspired, and to start noticing .
